My Ghana family

I am not a well traveled person. But I can't imagine a more friendly place than Ghana. I am so far from my family and home. Yet, I feel that I am with friends in a strangely familiar place.

My new Sr. Brother, Emmanual, helps me to navigate and get what I need. Translates when I don't understand Ghanaian English and when others do not understand my American English.

My mommy, Amelia, is a strong business woman who seems well respected. She shows us Ghana living. Makes sure we have good water and gives my children candy.

Millicent, my sister, who brings me food and makes accomodations for our American requests for ketchup and bottled drinks. She meets us at the door of the restaurant and gives us a seat near a fan. Monday we will go to take pictures together. She calls my name when she sees me.

I miss America, and my boys. I miss my dogs and all of my friends. But if I must be away, Ghana takes care of me.

  2. Oh, I'm still missing my Ghana family, even though I'm home with my family now! Please do greet your mommy Amelia for me! I miss greeting her every morning and afternoon and evening as I walk back and forth between EH and the guesthouse. I've enjoyed your updates and "seeing" Ghana again through your eyes.

  4. I just found your blog, and am looking forward to reading more of your family's story.

Blessings to you ... as you enjoy your time in Ghana. I spent a month there in Feb. '08, to bring home my 3 children ... and I just spent 2 1/2 weeks there last month, to help a friend bring home 3 children.

From what I've read, I think you might be from Wa. State. If so ... welcome to the ever-growing group of Ghanaian adoptive families in the Pacific NW.
